Planning the move to Australia? Hear from our Working Holiday Visa Candidate!

โWe recently caught up with one of our amazing Working Holiday Visa candidates Emma, who shared her tips and tricks for those wanting to make the move to Australia!
Q. What sparked the move to Australia?
It is something Iโve always wanted to do. The lifestyle, weather and having friends here made me take that leap to move abroad from London and come to Australia. No regrets โ loving every moment of being here!
Q. How did you find the WHV process?
With the working holiday visa application, I found the process to be quite simple. It took only a couple of hours to complete the form and was processed fairly quickly.
For anyone looking to apply for the WHV, my tips are to have your passport ready and proof of funds, as these are all required to support your application being approved.
Q. How did you find the rental/accommodation market?
My advice is to anyone considering the move, be prepared that the rental market can be highly competitive, which can be quite challenging when in a new setting!
Fortunately, in my case, I have a friend based in Sydney who was able to go to viewings. For newcomers, bear in mind the timezone differences and if possible rely on a friend for a FaceTime viewing. You can also sign up to Flatmates or Facebook groups to help you find somewhere to settle down!
Q. Did you find it easy to set up your banking & tax details?
I did all of this on the day I landed, so I recommend to anyone to get your admin day done as soon as youโre here. With my bank card, it took a matter of hours in which I was able to use the card digitally until I went to my local branch to get the physical card. In the meantime, Revolut & Monzo came in handy! As for my tax details, this was a simple process to get done and you don't need a long term address, you just need a postal address.
Q. Important for many! Getting your phone up and running!
This was important for me so I could stay in touch with family and friends back home!
My tip is to go to your local supermarket to get a sim card! I went to Woolworths and bought a pre-paid Telstra sim, which has amazing signal and only took a matter of minutes to set up.
Q. Any final thoughts for WHV planning the move to Australia?
It has been such a wonderful experience. Be sure to join community social events as everyone is friendly and approachable. Also, on the job front, network with recruiters as they can help be part of your journey and listen to your needs!
If you are still unsure whether or not to take that leap and make the move - I say do it, you wonโt regret the experience!
